What is an observership program?

It is a short term program run by a hospital for pre-medical, medical students, nurses, doctors, and paramedical staff to get a chance to observe how that hospital and its doctors treat and care for their patients. Such programs are designed to last for a week or just a couple of weeks.

As the name suggests, you observe and do not participate in patient care. But, such a program often proves a great learning. That is why they are so popular.

Why do you need to take up one such program?

It is short term, so you do not have to commit a lot of time and money. More importantly, you learn from the top of doctors in your field and associated fields.

Be it the way they handle emergencies or the technology they leverage to ensure better results, you’d end up learning a lot. If learning is important to you, then you must consider taking up an observership program.

How much does it cost?

It doesn’t cost much. Moreover, the costs differ from one center for observership in India to another center. So, what you need to do here is check with a couple of centers / hospitals in your city (or, with hospitals that you have on your radar), and see which one has an observership program that you’d love to take up.
